The federal government shut down on October 1st after Congress was unable to reach a funding agreement. While negotiations continue in Washington, many government operations are temporarily paused.

What the Shutdown Means

Social Security payments and other essential services remain active.
Many federal agencies have suspended nonessential operations.
Federal employees, including military personnel, will not receive pay during the shutdown. Retroactive pay is generally approved once funding resumes, the exact timing is still unclear.
