Press Release: Bank Responds to News Article

1 min read

TransPecos Bank

For Immediate Release

Pecos, Texas — [February 4, 2026, 9:00pm CST] — Shortly after 5 pm today, TransPecos Banks, SSB learned of an article published by the Pecos Enterprise and written by its owner, Smokey Briggs, which contains materially false and misleading information.

The Bank is prohibited by law from disclosing customer information and, as such, is reluctant to discuss much information about customer accounts. However, because of the false and misleading statements made in this publication, the Bank determined it was important that the Pecos community know the facts.

TransPecos Banks’ systems were not breached or otherwise compromised.

Separately and completely unrelated, some of the Bank’s customer debit cards were recently compromised through a “brute-force attack” by computer fraudsters who randomly produce debit card numbers and seek to initiate transactions on customer accounts. Fortunately, the Bank’s security systems caught the affected debit cards fraud attempts so that no customer funds were lost.

We are disappointed that the Pecos Enterprise has chosen to publish an article that defames the Bank and incorrectly suggests that its own systems have been compromised, and that “multiple unnamed bank customers have reported similar scam occurrences.”

The Bank has recently invested significant funds in upgrading its systems to protect against this kind of criminal activity, which has become commonplace. The Bank will continue to make these types of investments and provide the safe and secure service to its customers that it has for over 100 years.
